Drama Studio Istrian National Theatre in Pula intensively uses Forum Theatre as a means of encouraging young viewers to actively participate in solving social problems, but also as an exercise of improvisation and partner games for the participants.
Experienced dramatic educators Marijaa Peršić and Aleksandar Bančić gladly accepted our invitation At the 9th Zvezdarište they will bring scents and light of Istria and the desire to share their experiences and knowledge with colleagues from Serbia. At the "Kult" stage from 18 to 20 April from 11am till 3pm they will hold a workshop of Forum theater for high school students.
Alexander Bančić, drama pedagogue
Born 1974. He works as a drama pedagogue in Istrian National Theatre since 1997. Tehere he has played in over twenty plays and with his colleague Marijana Peršić started, directed and played in the play ''Have to have you''. He has directed ''Board Games'' by Gordon Scammella
Currently working as an artistic director of the International Youth Theatre Festival. He e specialized in the techniques of Forum theater. Particularly interested in interactive features of the theater. He led a multitude of projects and workshops at home and abroad. Author of several articles on Forum Theatre, which are part of domestic and foreign collection. A member of Croatian Centre for Drama Education.
Marijana Peršić, drama pedagogue
Born in 1975. Graduated in Croatian, Italian, and literature from the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula. Through Istrian National Theatre she had a chance to meet the world stage as an actress, props specialist, prompter, director, organizer, playwright, dramaturge, drama pedagogue and coordinator, which is the Marijana’s current employment. Writes texts for children and young people. She won the prize ''Zvjezdana Ladika” (Croatian Centre ASSITEJ) in the category of high quality drama educational work on a play ''Over the rainbow'' which she developed in collaboration with members of the Drama studio of Istrian National Theatre. A member of Croatian Centre for Drama Education, where together with her colleagues she organizes workshops for educators, and introduce them with the possibilities of theater arts and drama education in the educational process.
Forum Theatre is one of the techniques of Theatre of the Oppressed and belongs to the form of participatory theater. Involves the active participation of the audience, not just suggestions and comments, but also entering the stage and changing the course of the play. The audience gets the opportunity to change the course of the play but also that the play changes them by giving them the opportunity to find one or more possible outcomes of a conflict situation.
The play begins by playing a scene in which the protagonist can not solve a problem that torments him. The most important in the construction of the scene is that the problem which appears is REAL, the audience can identify with him, that it came out of the experience of the workshop participants.
This workshop is based on exercises, games and techniques used in group work, drama pedagogy, psychodrama, experiential exercises and techniques specially developed for Theatre of the Oppressed.
